Welcome to the website for the University of Memphis
CEPR Diversity Committee

Picture
This committee was originally formed in 2007 by several doctoral students in the counseling psychology program, as well as Dr. Schiro-Geist, the faculty advisor of the committee. Since it's establishment, the committee has expanded to all graduate students in the Counseling, Educational and Psychological Research (CEPR) department based in the College of Education of the University of Memphis.

We as a committee define diversity as an appreciation and respect for, and inclusion of, multiple cultural ways of being and experience including, but not limited to, race and ethnicity, sex and gender, sexual orientation, disability status (mental and physical), age, nationality, and socioeconomic status.

Our vision is to facilitate increased appreciation for and understanding of individual differences, thereby encouraging compassion, advocacy, and continued personal and professional growth within the field of counseling.

In support of this vision, the committee offers presentations/workshops, facilitated discussions, community service opportunities, participate in department programming, conduct research, distribute a quarterly newsletter, and provide resources to students, faculty, and the community via this website. In addition, the committee seeks cross-cultural enhancement through study abroad opportunities.

Please enjoy exploring the website. Included you will find our quarterly newsletter, as well as information and resources about a variety of populations and diversity-related issues within our field. It is our hope that this website will be helpful in assisting people in their own personal and professional diversity work, wherever they may be in their process.

Please feel free to contact us with comments, questions, or suggestions.
